Facilitating Training
This article includes guidelines for a successful training session using the Strivr Training System for use with Pico G2, Pico 4KS, Oculus Go, and Oculus Rift.
If you have a system that includes a management device, learn how to set up your equipment in System Setup.

Preparing the equipment
The day before delivering training, make sure all your headsets are charged, the controllers are paired with the headsets, the headsets are connected to Strivr, and they all have the latest content.
- Make sure headsets are charged:
Charge the headsets by connecting them to the USB hub with the charging cables. If your system does not include a USB hub, charge the headsets with wall outlet adapters and charging cables.
From 0%, headsets will charge fully in about 2 hours. - Make sure controllers are paired:
Put on the headset and ensure you can see and select with the pointer.
If a controller does not function, make sure that it's awake by pressing the home button for 2 seconds.
If a controller appears to be unpaired, see Why can't I see my controller pointer in the headset?
-
Make sure headsets are connected to Strivr
Put on the headset and log in.
On the course selection screen, select the About button. The status should say Connected to Strivr.
If you see Wi-Fi not enabled or Not Connected to Wi-Fi on the About screen:
-
Open wi-fi settings by pulling the controller trigger while tilting the thumbstick UP and pressing it IN.
-
Make sure Use Wi-Fi is set to On.
-
Select your wi-fi network and key in the password.
NOTE: If your company uses a Mobile Device Management (MDM) system, you may not be allowed to select a wi-fi network. Contact your MDM admin for more information.
-
- Make sure the latest content is uploaded
Leave all headsets plugged in overnight. If an update is queued, they will automatically update to the latest content version.
Choosing a training space
If possible, train in a quiet area with minimal noise and distraction.
-
Ensure that foot traffic is low in the area chosen and the area is free of hazards and obstacles.
-
If the experience will be taken seated, have a swivel chair available for the learner to sit and turn in. Taking the experience seated is recommended when a facilitator is not present or the learner feels discomfort.
-
If the experience will be taken standing, you may want to have a chair or table nearby for the learner to rest a hand on to ground themselves in the physical space.
-
Facilitators may check on learner during training sessions to ensure safe training.
-
For Pico Neo 3, ensure that learners have adequate room to draw a safe use boundary. For 6DoF experiences, Strivr recommends a 10' x 10' area. If learners will be training on 3DoF experiences only, they can choose the predefined boundary Sitting - medium or Standing - medium.
Retrieving the headset and getting the learner ready
When a learner is to begin training,
-
Carefully unplug the headset from its charging cable.
-
Clean and disinfect the headset (and follow your company's specific instructions for cleaning and disinfecting.)
-
Ensure the space around the learner is free from obstacles and give the learner the headset and controller.
-
Tell the learner to have their Login ID at hand. They will need it to log into the training session.
-
For Neo 3, prepare the learner to draw a safe use boundary.
Putting on and adjusting the headset
-
Make sure the learner is aware of their surroundings before putting on the headset.
-
Pico G2, Pico 4KS, Oculus Go:
-
The headset has two side straps and one top strap. Learners should put the headset on like a pair of goggles and adjust the straps until the headset is comfortable and does not feel like it is falling down.
-
-
Pico Neo 3:
-
The headset has two side straps and one top strap. Learners should loosen the side straps by rotating the adjustment dial on the back, then rotate the straps up and put the face visor over their eyes (and glasses if they are wearing them). Then, holding the face visor in place, they should rotate the straps down and tighten them using the adjustment dial until comfortable. If the headset is too tight, they can remove the inner top strap.
-
Movement tracking: The headset uses movement tracking to orient the learner in space. Be careful not to block the passthrough cameras on the front of the headset when putting it on—doing so can interfere with movement tracking. If you see a message that movement tracking is lost, make sure the passthrough cameras are not blocked and look around your surroundings. Movement tracking should automatically reset. Do not disable movement tracking. If movement tracking does become disabled, contact Strivr support.
-
Interpupillary Distance: If the view appears blurry, and moving the headset up and down does not improve the image quality, you can manually adjust the distance between the lenses to line them up with the distance between your pupils. Take off the headset and use your thumbs and forefingers to grip and move the lenses toward or away from the middle. There are 3 distance settings: 58mm, 63.5mm, and 69mm.
-
-
Glasses: If the learner wears glasses, they should wear their glasses inside of the headset. For more information, see Can I wear my glasses in the VR headset?
-
Larger hairstyles, headwraps, or other headwear: The headset's straps can accommodate almost any hairstyle or headwrap. First, learners should adjust the straps to their loosest setting. On Pico headsets, they can also remove the inner top strap (but make sure to retain it.) Then, put the headset display up over their eyes first. The learner may then pull the top strap up and over as much of their hair or headwrap as the straps will reach, and tighten the side straps such that the headset's display remains secure over their eyes.
-
Headphones: If using external headphones, instruct learners to put the headphones around their neck, then put the headset on, and then move the headphones up over their ears after they have adjusted their headset.
Proceeding through training
Once the controller is calibrated, the learner is ready to proceed through the training. For explanations of the controller buttons and calibration, see Controller Basics.
Logging out
-
Learners should select Log off inside the headset before ending their training session and taking off the headset. A complete training session includes three steps: Successful login, successful completion of training, and successful logout.
-
Auto logout: The headset will automatically log out of the current session and start a new one when it is plugged into the charging cable.
Returning headset
When a learner finishes training,
-
Return the headset and controllers to their storage location.
-
Plug the charging cable back into the headset.
-
For Oculus Go headsets, ensure the headset is powered on so it can receive updates (Pico headsets turn on automatically when the charging cable is plugged in.)
NOTE: Do not power off the headset. The headset must remain on to send training results and receive updates to and from Strivr.

Follow the steps to deliver training using the Strivr Training system for use with Oculus Rift.
For instruction on how to set up your equipment, see Oculus Rift System Setup.
Clear the Space and Position the Learner
Ensure the space around the learner is free from obstacles and they are sitting down in front of the sensors.
Open Training and Log In
Double-click the Strivr Player icon on the desktop of the training laptop. Ensure the learner logs in with proper ID.
Show How to Use the Controllers
Remind the learner that the Trigger button, which is used to select items in the virtual environment, is located under their index finger. For more information, see Controller Basics.
Help Put on the Headset
Remind the learner to loosen the side and top velcro straps. Have them put the headset on from the front first, over their eyeglasses if they wear them, and then slip the straps over their head. They may then tighten the straps and move the headphones over their ears. For more information, see How to Put on the Oculus Rift Headset.
Help Adjust Image Clarity
Have the learner move the headset up and down on their face until the image is clear. They may also push in and slide the lens slider (located on the bottom of the headset) left or right until the image is clear. Use a dry microfiber cloth to clean the lenses of the headset if there are smudges.
Complete Required Training
Help the learner navigate to the appropriate experience and complete the required training. Reinforce that they are in a 360-degree environment and can look all around them. Ask them to turn their head while in the experience.
Log Off
After the learner completes the training as directed, ensure they select Log Off while in the headset. This is important in order to capture accurate training session data.
Clean and Disinfect the Rift Headset
At the end of the session, ensure you or the learner use a wet anti-bacterial wipe to sanitize the straps, headphones, and foam padding of the headset. Avoid touching the lenses of the headset with the wet wipe. For complete Hygiene instructions, see Cleaning and Disinfecting VR Equipment.
Complete Post-VR Feedback Survey
Remind the learner to complete the feedback survey. Double-click the Post-VR Survey icon on the desktop of the training laptop and have them select the answers.
