Marker

A Marker is a type of event you can add to an Immersive training experience in Strivr Creator. Markers allow you to point out a spatial area in the scene and place an overlay above that space to provide information about it. The learner must dismiss the Marker by clicking Okay to continue the experience.

When should I use Markers?

Use a Marker when you need to provide context to your learner about a specific spatial area in the scene at a specific point in time or sequence. For example, if your experience follows a manager as he or she gives a tour of a construction site, place a Marker to point out one of the pieces of construction equipment when the tour guide mentions it. The experience will pause at that time and the learner can select the Marker to learn more about that equipment.

Tip: If the spatial area you are teaching about does not need to happen at a specific point in time or in a specific sequence, use a Scene Exploration instead of a Marker, which allows the learner to explore the scene at their own pace.

Since a Marker is usually meant for the learner to learn, you should generally use Markers for Lessons, not Assessments. Markers work well for both looping and non looping videos.

How to add a Marker

  1. In the Tree view (left panel), select a video to which you would like to add a Marker.

  2. In the Event bar at the top of the screen, click the Marker icon.

  3. Select a location in the video preview to place your Marker. It will appear in the Tree view.

  4. Double-click the new Marker in the Tree view and rename it.

How to edit the properties of a Marker

Select a Marker in the Tree view and its details will appear in the Properties panel on the right.

Marker Size

Change the size of a Marker to Small (S), Medium (M), or Large (L).

Position

To move a Marker quickly, click and drag it to the new location in the video preview. You can also specify exact coordinates for the Marker.

Highlight Area Size

The Highlight Area is a yellow outline that circles the full object of interest in a video. For example, if there is a hazardous puddle on the floor, adjust the width and height of the highlight area to fit around the puddle. The highlight area is only visible when a Marker is selected by the learner.

Click Result Type

The Click Result is the overlay window that pops up with more information when a Marker is selected by a learner. Depending on the type you choose, you can add a Title, Description, and/or Image to it. Images should be JPG or PNG, 800px x 600px at 72dpi. Images are resized to the maximum dimensions—make sure to use a 4:3 aspect ratio image (the ratio of width to height is 4 to 3).

Click Result Location

Choose the location where you want the overlay to appear in relation to the Marker: above, below, left, or right of the marker.

Audio

You can add an external audio file to a Marker (for example, audio that reads the description aloud). The audio file will play automatically when a learner selects the Marker. To learn more about recording audio, see Using Third Party Software with Strivr Creator.

How to delete a Marker

  1. Select a Marker in the Tree view (it will be highlighted.)

  2. Right click on it and select Delete.
